Who We Are

Hi, I’m Anna Belle — a health and nutrition enthusiast based in Australia.

I created kjtocalories.com out of a simple frustration: every time I picked up a snack at Woolworths or Coles, the label showed kilojoules — but my fitness app (MyFitnessPal) only tracked calories. I kept doing the math in my head, getting it wrong, and wishing there was a fast, reliable tool built specifically for Australians.

So I built one.

Why I Built This Site

Australia is one of the few countries where kilojoules (kJ) are the official unit of food energy — required by law under FSANZ (Food Standards Australia New Zealand). But almost every popular diet app, international recipe, and fitness tracker uses calories.

That gap causes real confusion — especially for people who are just starting their health journey and trying to make sense of food labels.

kjtocalories.com exists to bridge that gap with:

  • A fast, accurate kJ to calories converter (and calories to kJ)
  • Simple guides explaining what these numbers actually mean
  • Real Australian food examples using brands you actually buy

No ads cluttering the calculator. No confusing formulas. Just the answer you need, fast.

What You’ll Find Here

The Calculator — Enter any kJ value and get the calorie equivalent instantly. Works the other way too — calories to kJ.

Guides and Articles — Easy-to-read explanations of kilojoules, daily intake recommendations, how to read Australian food labels, and more.

Australian Food Examples — We use real foods from Coles, Woolworths, and popular Aussie brands — not generic US examples that don’t apply here.

Our Commitment to Accuracy

Every conversion on this site uses the internationally accepted formula:

1 kcal = 4.184 kJ

This is the same standard used by FSANZ, the World Health Organization, and food scientists globally. We don’t round aggressively or guess — our calculator gives you the precise value every time.

If you ever spot an error or want to suggest an improvement, please reach out via our Contact page. I read every message personally.
